Spectrum High School is a FREE, public, college-prep charter school serving 750 students in grades 6-12 in the broader Elk River area.
Spectrum High School’s educational program is based on the school's mission and vision statements:
Mission Statement: The Mission of Spectrum High School and Spectrum Middle School is to encourage students to attain their maximum potential through a 3-dimensional strategy emphasizing
- college preparatory curriculum
- a technology-integrated environment
- and community-based outreach.
Vision Statement: The Vision of Spectrum High School and Spectrum Middle School is to be a leader in academic and personal excellence through a program emphasizing high academic standards in a small-school setting.
In addition to a strong academic focus, Spectrum has a robust athletic program with a full 16 teams, plus several additional cooperative teams. The excellent fine arts program includes theatre and choir performances and a growing band program as well as visual and media arts, too!
Spectrum also has a history of strong community support, as well as achieving state and national recognitions for academic and financial excellence: this includes its most recent recognition as a Reward School by the Minnesota Department of Education.
Spectrum offers College at Spectrum High classes which allow students to take college courses while remaining on campus via our concurrent enrollment programs.
The AVID program is designed to provide extra support for students to succeed and to be prepared for college. This time-honored, international program was adopted by Spectrum, and it is proving to be very beneficial for students.
Spectrum has a phenomenal Service Learning program. There are nearly two dozen groups of middle and high school students who take part in project-based service learning to reach out to the community and to create positive change.
