Impactful:
March in Minnesota can test people’s patience. The days are getting longer, but winter does not always let up as quickly as we would like. By this point in the year many people have spent months navigating darker mornings, colder temperatures, and long stretches indoors. It can quietly take a toll on energy levels, mood, and overall outlook.
Because of that, this is a good time to be a little more intentional about paying attention to the people around us. Mental health does not always show up in obvious ways. Sometimes it looks like irritability, low motivation, or someone simply seeming more withdrawn than usual. Taking a few minutes to check in with your children, friends, or family members can make a real difference. Ask how things are going. Listen to what they say and also to what they might not be saying.
It can also be helpful to remember that this time of year affects people differently. Some students and adults push through it without much trouble. Others feel the weight of the season more than they expected. A little patience, encouragement, and understanding can go a long way in helping someone feel supported.
As we move toward spring, small things can help. Getting outside when the sun appears. Staying active. Keeping routines consistent. Most importantly, staying connected with the people around us. Often, a simple conversation is the first and most important step.
Practical:
Our seniors recently completed their Senior Presentations, and they did an outstanding job. The quality of the work was impressive and highlighted some extraordinarily meaningful projects and impacts within the communities around us. Several of the judges shared with me afterward how pleased they were with the preparation, professionalism, and effort our students demonstrated. Our seniors really knocked it out of the park.
Of course, none of this happens by accident. A great deal of credit goes to our Senior Capstone advisor, Mrs. Chrest, who works tirelessly throughout the year to support and guide our students through this process. Because of her leadership, our seniors are able to take full advantage of an experience that can truly be life-changing.
I am incredibly proud of our seniors and the work they’ve accomplished during their years here at SHS.
