Impactful:

Artificial Intelligence reminds me of many revolutions in history. I could use many examples, but the one I keep thinking about is the moment airplanes began to replace ships for long-distance travel. At first, I can imagine that many people resisted this new innovation. Ships had been the trusted way to move people, food, and resources for many centuries. Airplanes were new, scary, and even dangerous. But in time, they changed everything, connecting people around the world in ways never seen before.

AI feels similar right now for me. It moves quickly and challenges what I consider stable. Like airplanes, it will not simply replace old ways of doing things. It will create new opportunities we can’t yet see. In education, the challenge is not about keeping up necessarily, but about learning how to lead through change.

Change is constant, but progress depends on our mindset. Every day, new tools, systems, and technologies push us to think differently, to rethink how we teach and how students learn. The lesson is simple… When faced with change, stay curious and focus on what you can create.

If we model that approach for our students with curiosity and creativity, we can help them learn how to adapt and grow. We are not just preparing them for the world they will enter after high school, we are helping them shape it too.

Practical:

I’ll admit, it’s been a while since my last blog. Thinking about all that’s happened since then, here are a few highlights that rise to the top of the list…

A big thank you to Mrs. Chrest, Mrs. Pinz, and our Student Council members for organizing a fantastic Homecoming Week (10/6–10/11)! Students showed their school spirit through themed dress-up days, and the pep fest was full of energy as we celebrated our fall athletes and the “best dressed” winners for the week. The festivities wrapped up with a great football win and a well-attended dance.

I also want to thank those who attended parent-teacher conferences on Tuesday, October 14. We always appreciate the opportunity for face-to-face connections, as they strengthen our partnerships and ensure we’re collaborating on what matters most, our students’ growth.

Finally, a quick reminder: if you have children who would like to join their siblings at Spectrum High School or Middle School, or if you know families interested in becoming part of our community next year (2026–2027), now is the time to apply! Applications for enrollment are due by January 31, 2025.

Apply to Spectrum today!
