Impactful:
Kindness. It’s a simple word. The Macmillan Dictionary states that “kindness” comes from the Old English word ‘kyndnes’ meaning ‘nation’ or ‘produce, increase.’ The word is further derived from the Middle English word ‘kindenes,’ meaning ‘noble deeds’ or ‘courtesy.’”
As a parent of three children, the oldest now 17, my wife and I have always made it a priority to teach them how important it is to treat others with kindness. From their very first day of school, this has been a value we’ve worked to instill.
At Spectrum High School, I see kindness in action every day—whether in the hallways, during classroom observations, or in the lunchroom where students gather to socialize and recharge. It’s clear that we have a wonderful community, and I believe your student plays a vital role in making our school what it is.
I’m asking for your help in continuing to foster this atmosphere of respect and kindness. Please take a moment to talk with your student(s) about these values. Ask them for examples of kindness they’ve witnessed or shared, and encourage them to actively seek out opportunities to be kind to others. This simple act of reflection and encouragement can go a long way in ensuring that every student feels welcome and valued here.
Thank you for your support in helping us build a school environment where respect, honor, and kindness thrive.
