Impactful:

It is Friday, November 10th, 2023, and tomorrow is Veterans Day. Coincidentally, in my free time, I’ve been watching the American war drama miniseries, “Band of Brothers”. The series details the history of “Easy” Company, whose members were part of the 506th Parachute Infantry of the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. My experience viewing the 10 episode series over the past four months has been difficult at best. Don’t get me wrong, it is excellent in many ways. However, I’m left with feeling such a vast array of emotions after each episode, that it’s hard to identify how it actually makes me feel.

I think movies and shows that portray what our soldiers’ experiences were like in the midst of war are intended to stir these emotions within the viewer. To feel the way I do while simply watching the show, I can’t even begin to imagine the weight of the emotions our soldiers who were actually there felt.

My choice this week is to highlight the responsibility that each of us has in the honoring of our troops throughout the history of our great country. To ensure we talk about their sacrifice, and the sacrifice of their loved ones, is undoubtedly what we should do and what we must continue to do. Traditions such as Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and others are reminders that all that we have is due to the sacrifice of so many that came before us.

Today, we will honor our Veterans here at Spectrum with our annual Veterans Day Program. I want to share a sincere thank you to all of our guests, staff, and student participants who will play a role in delivering this experience to our community. I am proud to be part of an organization that takes time to remember our Veterans and their families.
