Impactful:

“The little things, it’s the little things!”  I remember one of my high school football coaches, Coach Mike Breyen, using this phrase over and over and over again when I played for the Elk River high school football team in the late 90’s.  Wouldn’t you know it, after college, I ended up back in Elk River teaching and coaching football alongside Coach Breyen during the first part of my career in education.  And guess what I heard during those 10 years we coached together, over and over and over again…???  Yep! “The little things, it’s the little things!”  Coach Breyen never relented with this simple, but critical message.  Although it’s been several years since I’ve been around Coach Breyen, I would guess this still rings true, as he remains an integral part of a recent state championship caliber coaching staff.

Coach Breyen’s words have stuck with me through the many years that have gone by, and they’ve helped guide me at times in all facets of my life.  The point is that cutting corners, whether in my personal life, as a husband, at work, as a dad, or as a coach, is just not worth it.  Take care of the little things, and the big things will fall into place.  Thank you, Coach Breyen!

Practical:

The holiday season is here!  We hope you had the opportunity to spend some time with family and friends during our extended Thanksgiving weekend at the end of November!  The month of December is always a “buzzing” month at Spectrum High School.  We also hope you were able to join us last Friday night for our Winter Fine Arts Choir concert.  A special thank you to Ms. Peiffer, as well as her choir students, for putting on a fantastic show.  Additionally, we hope you can join us this evening for our Winter Fine Arts Band concert at 7 pm.  Mrs. Pallin, Mrs. McGorry, and the band students have been preparing for what promises to be a very entertaining evening of music.

As always, thank you for the opportunity to work with your student(s).  We are extremely fortunate to have a community of families at our school that we can count on in the journey of education.
