Principal's Blog: 9/3/21

Dear Spectrum High School Families,

Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! We’ve had a great first week of school and many thanks are deserved on three fronts.  First, a huge thank you to our staff for doing an incredible job of preparing and getting us rolling this school year.  Secondly, thank you parents/guardians for your patience as we continue to navigate the many hurdles that have come with the beginning of a new year and the ever changing guidance at the state level.  Lastly, thank you students for your continued resilience and your positive attitudes.  Our students at SHS never cease to amaze me with their outlook on life and their approach to the challenges they face.

Speaking of approaches, throughout this school year I plan to take a slightly different approach to the High School Principal’s blog.  My intention every few weeks within the blog will be to provide something “impactful” and “practical”.  My purpose with the “impactful” will be to provide perspective while I hope you find the “practical” information related to happenings here at SHS helpful.

Impactful: I’ve always been mesmerized by the story of “Team Hoyt”, which pushes to the very top of the priority list in all of our lives, the love of a child.  If you’ve never heard the story, please take a moment to explore it here and here

Sadly, Dick Hoyt passed away this past spring, but his legacy will live on.  We can take so many lessons from this incredible story of human sacrifice, determination, and love.  With that, I firmly believe within every educator lives the spirit of serving others.  With that, we hope to provide each and every student here at SHS with opportunities to learn, grow, and flourish this school year, and we thank you for your support.

Practical: Please note that beginning the week of September 13th, our 2021-22 Sting Time schedule is as follows:

Tuesday: Advisory

Wednesday: RTI

Thursday: RTI

Friday: RTI

All high school students are required to attend our scheduled Advisory sessions.  Students with Release PERKS are not required to attend RTI sessions in which they’ve not been scheduled for.  However, any and all students selected by a teacher for an RTI session are indeed required to attend.

Finally, as Spectrum’s High School Principal, I welcome and value your input. Please feel free to stop in, call, or email to discuss any suggestions, concerns, or ideas to help make this year a success.
