Principal's Blog: 1/22/21

Greetings Spectrum Families,

Well, here we go again!  We are back to hybrid learning here at SHS and looking forward to seeing many of our students face-to-face once again.  As all of you know, there are many challenges and complexities that come along with this shift back into hybrid.  All the same, just seeing your students faces (masks and all) is worth it!

As our new semester begins, I want to take a moment to address a very important topic that is relevant to all.  The significance of our (both adults and adolescents) mental and emotional health during this time of year cannot be understated.  It is always good to check in.  That being said, I encourage all of you, as parents or guardians, to reach out and talk with your student(s) about the status of their current self-esteem, self-image, and self-concept.  There is no doubt that 2020 was an emotional rollercoaster ride for everyone.  To put this in perspective, we are all adults who possess resiliency skills and coping skills to combat the stressors that came, and continue to come, with this unique time in our lives.  Our adolescent children, in many cases, have not had the same opportunities or life experiences that would allow them to possess these skills.  This is why it is so important to sit down and have the conversation.

If you find that you are in need of further support, please do not hesitate to reach out to our counseling department, who can help with locating additional resources for your individual family needs.  Although I don’t believe that, as they say,  “we’re all in the same boat”.  I do believe “we are all in the same ocean” and we must all do whatever we can to support one another.
