Spectrum High School Parents/Guardians,

During this season of thanksgiving, I want to point out a few things that I am incredibly thankful for. First, I am so thankful for our staff here at Spectrum, who have done everything in their power to help keep our school functioning as normal as possible during a very difficult time.  Secondly, I would like to point out my gratitude for our families and the support they have given us since day one of this unique year.  Lastly, I want you to know that I remain immensely grateful for the opportunity to serve our community of learners and remain dedicated to our ultimate goal of providing our students with opportunities to thrive.

As you know, full distance learning began this week and we ask for your continued partnership and support of your student(s) as we embark on this familiar yet different journey.  Our goal is for this new distance learning experience to be different than last spring.  We want you to know that we are approaching distance learning as more of a continuation of how we’ve been functioning throughout this school year, rather than starting something new.  Teachers have worked tirelessly to build their capacities to make this continuation a possibility and we believe the transition will be a smooth one.

What we need from you is your continued support and encouragement of your student(s) to engage fully in the opportunities we are providing.  Please encourage your student(s) to self-advocate and self-monitor.  Remind them to take screen breaks when needed, to get outside for fresh air, and to maintain their social interactions with peers as best they can.  Our counseling staff is currently working on building a resource that will assist students in maintaining connections with both peers and teachers outside of the virtual classroom. Stay tuned for more information on this.

Finally, I want to reiterate a potential opportunity that may be available again in the near future as we work our way through this quarter.  I am referring to our on-site opportunity for students.  Students who have opted into this option are currently attending school on their designated learning group’s (Tuesday/Wednesday or Thursday/Friday) days, and are housed in the College and Career Center.  Here, they are provided with a quiet environment where they can attend their virtual classes, have dedicated and structured work time, and are held accountable throughout their day.  Please keep your eyes open for a communication related to this opportunity in the near future.

With that, we wish you all a fantastic and happy Thanksgiving!!!  Stay safe and healthy!
