Spectrum High School Parents/Guardians,

Even though we might feel as if our autumn is slipping away, we still have some semblance of hope as we warm up a bit this coming weekend and into next week.  Today marks the end of the first quarter of the 2020-21 school year and we find ourselves continuing to learn, adapt, and find unique ways to approach education.

Some of our biggest challenges have been virtual student engagement and accountability.  Our message to families, and especially students, is to continue to strive to identify the heart of the issue.  Respond appropriately by potentially working toward building skills to combat the urges to pick up the phone during virtual class, or have a YouTube video playing alongside your Google Meets session.  Parents, please consider putting boundaries in place for your student if and when necessary.  We are working to identify learners in need of further support here at school and making offers.  If you are finding a need to request support, please contact us.  Many times, a simple meeting (virtual or in-person) to talk through a plan of action is all it takes to get struggling students back on track.  We are always available to brainstorm and collaborate with you on how to support your student(s).

As you may know, parent/conferences this fall will be held virtually or over the phone. Because of the complexities of this new system, there will be limited slots available for parents to meet with teachers.  You should have received an email from your student(s) with a link to sign up with specific teachers if your student is struggling in a specific area.

I will add that we are continuing to work toward being responsive and appreciate communication from all our families.  If you reach out to any of our teachers, we will work to make the connection as it is our intention to team with our families in this unique and challenging time.
