Middle School Directed Study

January 8, 2024

Spectrum Families,

As your child begins the second semester of the year, I am excited to offer a place to get organized, to study, and/or to complete assigned practices after school: Spectrum’s Directed Study Program. We currently run this program on the sixth grade campus and have run it on the seventh/eighth in previous years, so I am excited to announce its return. This program will run from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, starting on January 23, and ending in May.

Any seventh or eighth grade student can attend but is required to sign up for the desired days of attendance. The student cannot attend unless there has been a sign-up. It is a NO-COST program designed for students who are interested in additional structured time to work either individually or collaboratively. Additionally, we are inviting certain students as a means to support their academics, based on the results from the first semester. For these students, we are hoping to support growth in their organization, note-taking, missing (late) assignments, and the quality of their work.

Support

Students will receive support from Mr. Patterson. They need to report to room 108 right after school ends unless otherwise noted during Daily Announcements.

Expectations

  • Students must be picked up right at 4:00 p.m.;
  • Students are expected to remain in the classroom for the entire 90 minutes with the exception of planned breaks provided by the supervisor. They may be permitted leave early with written parental permission;
  • Students who have had repeated behavior problems at school will not be eligible to attend the Directed Study sessions; and
  • All school rules apply to the Directed Study Program.

Registration

Registration is essential for planning purposes and is required with no exceptions. All registration sessions are available online via the form below. Please note - If registration is not received by Friday a.m. prior to the next week’s session, students should not attend and need to leave school at the end of the school day. Last minute drop-ins are not allowed.

I am pleased to offer another way that helps our learning community and makes Spectrum Middle School a great place to learn. If you have any questions or are in need of additional information, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Thank you,

Greg Heinecke
Principal
