Spectrum Daily 11-3-22

SPECTRUM HIGH SCHOOL

  • Spectrum will be conducting a MANDATORY winter sports meeting for students interested in alpine skiing, basketball, dance team, and wrestling.

The boys basketball meeting will be at 6:30 pm on Monday, November 7 in the Middle School Gym.  The girls basketball and wrestling meetings will both be at 6:30 pm on Monday, November 7 in the High School Gym. All student-athletes who are in grades 6-12 along with at least one parent must attend this MANDATORY meeting in order to participate in winter sports. This includes both high school and middle school winter sports. Included in the meeting will be requirements for participation, try-out information, and the opportunity to meet with the coaches.

  • We are exploring the opportunity to start a winter cheerleading team.  It would only meet 3 days per week including one game per week.  If this sounds interesting, please leave your name and grade at either the middle school or high school offices.

  • Come cheer on your favorite team at the 2022 Powder Puff game on Friday, November 11th, at the Athletic Field.   Each grade level will have a team.  First game starts at 6:00.  Students, staff, and parents are welcome!

  • STUDENT-ATHLETES:
Next Wednesday will be the national signing day for college athletics.  Spectrum will host a table for you to sign your national letter of intent. Please contact Mrs. Bondy in the school office if you would like to participate.

  • Softball is holding out of season practices November 1st to the 4th from 3-4 pm at the Spectrum Athletic Complex. Everybody is welcome regardless of experience. There will be hot chocolate and fun games. Make sure to dress warm. Contact Lillian Marberg or Kenzie Scholer with any questions!

  • Lost and Found: If you are missing a sweatshirt, book, blanket, water bottle, or any other personal item, please check out the lost and found this week. Any items not claimed by the end of parent/teacher conferences will be donated to a local charity.

  • Thank you, students, for your patience during the construction process. Between the dirt, dust, truck and equipment traffic, and vibration from compacting, it’s been fun to watch our new high school student/event parking lot come to fruition.

We’re excited to announce that the new lot is now open for business. Peterson Companies did an amazing job and finished ahead of schedule!

As construction was underway, we began talking with students and staff about the best way to approach an additional 100+ cars exiting the high school parking lot at the end of each school day. We are sharing the plan with the understanding that this will be reviewed prior to winter break to determine if adjustments will be needed. As always, we appreciate your feedback. Please contact Mrs. Bondy, Mr. Skog, or Mr. Leland with questions.

HERE IS THE PLAN FOR HIGH SCHOOL PARKING LOT

    1. ALL student drivers MUST park in one of the two high school student parking lots. This means that students will no longer be allowed to park at either the 6th or 7th/8th grade buildings. Student parking will also no longer be allowed around the high school building.

    2. The student parking lots will be now be coned off starting at around 2:20 p.m. each school day and all student drivers will be required to remain in the lot until the last bus leaves. The cones will then be removed and student drivers will be allowed to leave. Patrols will block traffic on Industrial Circle NW from both directions allowing all student drivers to leave immediately. This means – no more waiting in line. Since there will now be two lanes exiting the parking lot, it is important that those in the left lane turn left and the right lane turn right.

    3. Student family members riding with a student driver should either meet them in the high school student parking lot right after school or wait for their ride at their respective building. If walking to the high school, students should use the crosswalks at the high school to cross Industrial Circle NW and the high school parking.

We're thankful that we can provide a new parking lot that will make parking so much easier and more convenient for all of our student drivers. We're hopeful that this plan for dismissal will work well, creating a safer and smoother dismissal for everyone. We really appreciate our students' feedback, so please let us know how things are going and we'll be happy to reevaluate prior to winter break.
