Spectrum Daily 10-18-22

SPECTRUM HIGH SCHOOL

  • Reminder: There will be no school on October 20 and 21 for MEA break. Additionally, October 24 will be a Staff Development day. Please plan accordingly.

  • Attention sophomores - there is a limited number of ACT online prep spots still available. Due to the limited number of openings, we will be holding a lottery to fill these spots. A sign up form has been emailed out to sophomores and opens today at noon.   It will close at noon on Wednesday. Students will be contacted by email after the lottery. See your school counselor with questions.

  • Yearbook and Broadcast Journalism students recently brought home awards from the MN High School Journalism Convention. Yearbook was awarded a Bronze All State Award for The Accolade 2022 yearbook.  NOISE News (Broadcast Journalism) was awarded 2nd place Best of Show for the October 4th show and a Gold All State Award for shows during the 2021/22 school year. In addition, Aric Randolph and Evan Koncsol received a 1st place Gold Medallion award in the category of Broadcast News Story.  Isaac Bengtson and former graduate Leyla Hadjdjelloul received 5th place in Broadcast News Story.  In Feature Broadcast News, JD Freeby and Leyla Hadjdjelloul took 3rd place while Ruby Curtis and Bel Dimaze took 4th place.  Congratulations to our journalism students on a successful conference!

  • Wreck-Less Driving Academy will be doing driver education classes in person at Spectrum from October 31st-November 11th from 2:45-5:45 pm.  If you are at least 14-1/2 years old and would like to join this class, please pick up a blue flyer outside the front office or connect with Mrs. Bondy.

  • Spectrum will be conducting a MANDATORY winter sports meeting for students interested in alpine skiing, basketball, dance team, and wrestling.

The dance team meeting (grades 7-12 only) will be at 6 pm on Monday, October 24 in the High School College and Career Center. The boys basketball meeting will be at 6:30 pm on Monday, November 7 in the Middle School Gym.  The girls basketball and wrestling meetings will both be at 6:30 pm on Monday, November 7 in the High School Gym. All student-athletes who are in grades 6-12 along with at least one parent must attend this MANDATORY meeting in order to participate in winter sports. This includes both high school and middle school winter sports. Included in the meeting will be requirements for participation, try-out information, and the opportunity to meet with the coaches.

  • Construction of our new high school Student & Event Parking Lot began recently. This means that the southeast student parking area will be closed off for construction and equipment for the next four weeks.

There are sufficient spots for students to park between the three buildings, but they will take longer to find (check your student parking map). Students should allow an extra 10 minutes to navigate the available parking and get to class on time during this construction period. If you have any trouble finding the parking maps, please see Mrs. Bondy for information on available parking.

Upon completion of the project, all high school students will be able to park on the high school campus. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we navigate this construction period and look forward to celebrating a brand new student and event parking lot before Thanksgiving!

  • All staff and students are invited to attend home athletic events for free by showing their picture ID. Until those are received, just say your name at the ticket table and they will verify it on an alphabetical listing they have. GO STING!
