SPECTRUM HIGH SCHOOL

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

  •

REPEATED ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Spectrum High School WILL be offering a Physical Education class this summer. The format of course delivery ( Distance Learning  or Hybrid Face-to-Face & Online) is uncertain at this time. The course is expected to run June 1 to July 30. Additional details will be made available in the near future. Parents and students may email questions to Mr. Frentzos.

  • It's that time of the year -- Spectrum Chamber Wind Auditions! All students that have three years or more of playing experience in band can audition for the new group.

Spectrum's Chamber Winds is comprised of the best wind and percussion students and is geared towards students that want more of a challenge in their musical ability. Students that are currently enrolled in Wind Ensemble have all their audition materials on Schoology. Students that are NOT currently enrolled in Wind Ensemble and still would like to audition for Chamber Winds must email Ms. Grace for the materials needed. Auditions will take place May 4 - May 8 via video recording. If students would rather be in the Wind Ensemble, they will NOT have to audition but will still need the required playing experience to get into the group.

  • Those interested in being in High School Choir next school year (2020-2021), will need to contact and submit an audition to Mrs. Bird. Auditions will take place during the first 2 weeks of May and will include vocal exercises, sight-reading and singing of a popular piece.

Please contact Mrs. Bird (mbird@spectrumhighschool.org) if you are interested in being in High School choir next year and for more information
    about auditions.

  • Reminder: Be sure to take short breaks and get away from your computer/phone screens. Be active, stretch, grab a snack, go outside for a bit, etc. Stay strong both mentally and physically.

  • Questions: (1) Will distance learning continue until the end of the school year and, if so, (2) when should my student pick up the rest of his or her belongings?

    Answer(s):

    (1) Spectrum will follow guidance provided by the Governor and  Commissioner of Education regarding distance learning.

    (2) In keeping with the current "stay-at-home" executive order from the Governor (through May 4), Spectrum has very limited staff on site at random times during the school week. If a student needs items in order to successfully complete school work for distance learning, they should contact David Steinhauser, Facilities Manager, at dsteinhauser@spectrumhighschool.org to coordinate a pick up.

  • Thank you for working with us to make sure distance learning is successful! If you haven’t already done so, please watch the student expectations video here.

  • Spectrum is suggesting that, when possible, students should log in during non-peak times such as between 7-10 a.m. and after 2 p.m. It’s not ideal, but Schoology is more stable at these times.

  • Students are encouraged to contact their teachers if they’re struggling to get their work done - especially if it is due to access issues in Schoology. Teachers are prepared to work through it with students to help them be successful.

  • Please see information on cancelled or modified spring school events on the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section of Spectrum’s new Updates page here.

  • Spectrum is adding answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the school website here as things come up about distance learning. Questions that are important to students will also be added to the daily announcements:
Question: Do students have to login into every class in Schoology every day in order for their attendance to be counted?
Answer: No. We are functioning within an “asynchronous” distance learning format. This means we have shifted from a daily attendance recording system to a weekly attendance recording system. Attendance is being calculated based on the completion of three items within the total of your required weekly work:
    1. Monday's Introductory Video,
    2. Assignment submissions throughout the week
    3. Weekly Check-in Form - We have stressed logging into Schoology on a daily basis in all of your courses to encourage you to stay connected and to manage your school work throughout the week. If you choose to complete all of your required work in one or two days, feel free to do so.
