SPECTRUM HIGH SCHOOL

REPEATED ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Questions: (1) Will distance learning continue until the end of the school year and, if so, (2) when should my student pick up the rest of his or her belongings?

    Answer(s):

    (1) Spectrum will follow guidance provided by the Governor and  Commissioner of Education regarding distance learning and students returning to the school buildings. As of April 4th, the plan remains for on-campus school to restart on Tuesday, May 5th.

    (2) In keeping with the current "stay-at-home" executive order from the Governor (through April 10), Spectrum has very limited staff on site at random times during the school week. If a student needs items in order to successfully complete school work for distance learning, they should contact David Steinhauser, Facilities Manager, at dsteinhauser@spectrumhighschool.org to coordinate a pick up.

  • Will students have required work to complete for 4th quarter Service Learning? No. Due to the limitations imposed by distance learning and the narrow timeline available to adapt curriculum and plans to connect with community organizations during this challenging time, Spectrum feels it is in the students’ best interest to have Service Learning end after the 3rd quarter (March 20th) - with no Service Learning requirements in 4th quarter.

    Note: We recognize that this may impact expectations for current juniors as they are preparing for and implementing their senior capstone legacy plan. More information will follow at a later time as adjustments are made to accommodate this change.

    As found in Spectrum’s mission, Community Outreach is a pillar of our identity as a school. Service Learning is an important aspect of that outreach, and will remain an integral part of our curriculum as we move into the 2020/2021 school year.

  • Spectrum’s Spring Break, scheduled for April 9, 10, and 13 WILL continue as scheduled.

  • Thank you for working with us to make sure distance learning is successful! If you haven’t already done so, please watch the student expectations video here.

  • Spectrum is suggesting that, when possible, students should log in during non-peak times such as between 7-10 a.m. and after 2 p.m. It’s not ideal, but Schoology is more stable at these times.

  • Students are encouraged to contact their teachers if they’re struggling to get their work done - especially if it is due to access issues in Schoology. Teachers are prepared to work through it with students to help them be successful.

  • Please see information on cancelled or modified spring school events on the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section of Spectrum’s new Updates page here.

  • Spectrum is adding answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the school website here as things come up about distance learning. Questions that are important to students will also be added to the daily announcements:
    Question: Do students have to login into every class in Schoology every day in order for their attendance to be counted?
    Answer: No. We are functioning within an “asynchronous” distance learning format. This means we have shifted from a daily attendance recording system to a weekly attendance recording system. Attendance is being calculated based on the completion of three items within the total of your required weekly work:
    1. Monday's Introductory Video,
    2. Assignment submissions throughout the week
    3. Weekly Check-in Form - We have stressed logging into Schoology on a daily basis in all of your courses to encourage you to stay connected and to manage your school work throughout the week. If you choose to complete all of your required work in one or two days, feel free to do so.
