Spectrum Daily 3-4-2020

SPECTRUM HIGH SCHOOL

  • NOISE News is seeking applicants for next year’s Broadcast Journalism program.  If you have an interest in creating video, writing, and speaking- we are looking for you!  No experience needed as we will train you.  All current 8th graders through juniors are encouraged to apply.  You may pick up an application on Mrs. Chrest’s door (Room 103) or in the office at the middle school.

  • Did you know that pop tabs have generated $500,000 to help keep Twin Cities area families close to their sick children in the hospital? Drop your pop tabs in your advisory class box today to win a pizza party! Big tabs can go in your opponent’s boxes as they subtract points from their total!

  • Would you like to help welcome the class of 2024 to Spectrum HS? Link Crew is recruiting leaders for the 20-21 school year.  Prospective leaders will be juniors and seniors next year.  Applications are available in the College & Career Center and Mr. Ott's or Ms. Hamernick's classrooms.

  • Spring Sports season will be here before we know it.  If you are in one of those sports and need to store your gear, please place them under the stairwell by Mr. Hyde's class (Room 110) and not the stairwell by the front office/college & career area.  Thank you!

  • Reminder: Thursday, March 5 and Monday, March 9 are parent/teacher conferences from 4 PM to 7 PM at Spectrum. Parents are encouraged to review progress for quarter and semester-long classes with their student(s) prior to attending conferences.

  • Please be sure to check the lost and found to claim any items that are yours.  Any unclaimed items by the end of conferences will be donated this Friday.

  • Registration for 20-21 school year classes is due March 17.  Make sure you complete the Registration Planning Worksheet AND input your courses requests in Campus Portal.  Applications are required for Yearbook, Broadcast Journalism, AP Biology, and American Literature Honors.  Links to the applications are located on the Spectrum Class Registration page.

  • One way to prevent illnesses, like the coronavirus, is to wash your hands properly and often. Regular hand washing is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and prevent the spread of germs to others. It’s quick, it’s simple, and it can keep us all from getting sick. Here are some examples of times you should wash your hands:

*Before, during, and after preparing food
    *Before eating food
*Before and after caring for someone at home who is sick
*Before and after treating a cut or wound *After using the toilet
*After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing *After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste
*After handling pet food or pet treats *After touching garbage

Most of us don't take enough time to wash our hands properly. Watch this video to see the recommended way of washing your hands and let's work together to try and keep ourselves and others at school and home safe from illness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PmVJQUCm4E
