Aberra and Johnson Lead Spectrum Top Track & Field Finishes at Annandale

Sophomore Elias Aberra and Senior Hailey Johnson led the Spectrum Track & Field team at the Annandale Invitational on May 18.  Aberra had three first place finishes (100 meter, 200 meter, and long jump) and one second place finish (triple finish) at the first official outdoor meet for the Sting.  Johnson set an all-time school record with her second place finish in the 200-meter dash (27.06) and added another second place in the 100-meter dash, and was a member of the first place girls 4 x 400-meter relay team.  The girls team came in 5th place out of 8 teams by scoring 63 points.  The boys were 3rd out of 8 teams.

Other top finishes for the Sting girls were Martha Bergley (1st in the 800 meter run) and Shayla Dellwo (3rd in the shot put).  Top finishes for the boys included Matt Helser (2nd in e 800), Caleb Rogers (3rd in the 800),), Kyle Haben (3rd in the 1600), and Earl Foster (3rd in the high jump).  The girls 4 x 400-meter relay (Johnson, Bergley, Makayla Harmer, and Adrienne Foell) and boys 4 x 400-meter relay (Rogers, Desmond Orton, Connor Reed, and Helser) each earned first place honors.

“Overall this was a good start for our team”, said coach Rick Peterson.  “We finished ahead of most of the Class A schools in our section and were competitive with some very good AA teams.  We are definitely ahead of where we were at this time a year ago.”

Spectrum will compete at the Big Lake Invitational this Thursday, April 25.
