Harvest Outreach -- Every 3rd Thursday, Spectrum joins Harvest Outreach and Cornerstone Auto Source (formerly Elk River Ford) to distribute hundreds of pounds of food and warm clothing to needy families in our area. We leave Spectrum immediately at 3:30 p.m. Please bring all of your belongings because we do not return; you need to arrange transportation to home from Cornerstone promptly at 6:10 p.m. This is hard, cold work and you need to dress accordingly. You MUST also have a signed
permission (available here) slip ahead of time in order to participate. Sign up outside Mrs. Oberg's room. It is an amazing experience to be the hands who feed the needy!

Ivy's Place, an assisted care facility for the elderly, has two different volunteer opportunities. Ivy's Place is located at 13181 Elgin Drive N.W., Elk River, MN 55330.
-
On a weekly or monthly basis, Ivy's Place is looking for students to come visit with their elderly residents. You could read to them, watch TV with them, or simply visit. Be creative . . . make crafts with them (you bring the supplies), polish their finger nails, or sing to them. Bring your instrument and play for them! They would just love to have your company. If this opportunity is of interest to you, please call Helen Peterson at 763-221-7720 for more information.

Ivy's Place is also looking for students who can commit to shoveling their walkways and the end of their driveway (they have a service that will plow the drive) after the snowplows go through each time it snows. Again, this opportunity requires commitment! Put together a team of students and come up with a schedule -- be creative on how you can help them with this need and at the same time you will be earning your Service Learning hours. Call Helen Peterson at 763-221-7720 for more information. Please help them -- they need you!
