Student Service Hour Opportunities

Service Learning Mission

It is the mission of Service Learning to empower and to unify our communities through service, education, and action. All students are required to participate in a Community Outreach Hours.

What counts as Community Outreach?

  • Community Outreach is intended for you to volunteer your services to someone in need.
  • Raking, shoveling, mowing for a neighbor, childcare at a church, working at a food shelf, etc. counts as Community Outreach.
What does not count as Community Outreach?
  • Community Outreach is not an activity in which you receive compensation or pay.

Student Volunteers!! Help at United Way Community Connect Oct 18!!

Student Leaders and Volunteers!

The 2018 Sherburne County Area United Way Community Connect event will be held at the Elk River High School on Thursday, October 18.  This event has many opportunities for student volunteers (age 14 and up) to help for a few hours on a day off school.

The Community Connect event brings together services in one place, on one day for those who are in need of support in a variety of ways.  A free meal, flu shots, haircuts, youth eye screening, winter coats and hygiene products will be available along with representatives from food shelves, employment agencies, housing opportunities, and MANY others.

Volunteers are needed to fill many roles for this event!  We are especially interested in asking student volunteers to help with meal service and shuttling shopping carts with goods to cars and bringing them back to the building. Because they need the largest groups at one time.

Follow the link below to SignUp where you can view the available tasks and shifts.  Enter your email and select the time you can help.  You will receive and email confirmation of your commitment and reminder email close to the event.  You can also return to the page to change your commitment.

ER Senior Living

September 12, 2018

Hello, my name is Darlene Anderson and I’m the Life Enrichment Director at Elk River Senior Living. Elk River Senior Living opened this summer and we are excited to be part of the community.

We have residents moving in and we’re becoming more and more active.  I’m writing to let you know we may be able to help some students if they need Volunteer Service Credits.

Some of the ideas would be to have students assist with activities such as Ice Cream Socials, table Games, walks outside, read to a senior, maybe some can play an instrument or sing.

Students that are interested in volunteering are welcome to contact us, whether they need credits or not

Thank you,

Darlene Anderson
