Student Service Hour Opportunities

Service Learning Mission

It is the mission of Service Learning to empower and to unify our communities through service, education, and action. All students are required to participate in a Community Outreach Hours.

What counts as Community Outreach?

  • Community Outreach is intended for you to volunteer your services to someone in need.
  • Raking, shoveling, mowing for a neighbor, childcare at a church, working at a food shelf, etc. counts as Community Outreach.
What does not count as Community Outreach?
  • Community Outreach is not an activity in which you receive compensation or pay.
Please explore below for a selection of current opportunities to serve our community!

The Parent Liaison at Parker Elementary in Elk River is looking for volunteers to help with childcare during their monthly parent meetings. This is great opportunity for students need to fulfill service hours. They would prefer volunteers to have gone through babysitting classes or be 15 or older.

The meetings at Parker typically last an hour and there are usually 4-8 kids that attend, mostly school age kids. They could use 2 or 3 volunteers who need service hours. There is a room with toys, books, and other things to do during the meetings. Below are the dates of our meetings this year. They last from 7-8pm.

May 10th

Good Day,

I hope you are doing well and I thank you and your school for your past help with the Nowthen Heritage Festival.

In addition to the festival we hold a spring breakfast fundraiser at Nowthen Alliance Church at the corners of County Roads 5 & 22  This year's date is Saturday, March 23rd. I am hoping you can help us out with some volunteers.

I'm looking for the following help:

Friday, March 23rd - 6pm - 8pm

Set up the church: set tables and serving stations, prepare clearing carts and fill gift bags for kids

Saturday, March 24th - shifts start at 6am, 7am & 7:30am - we plan to stop serving at 11 or 11:30 so the final shift would end around 12 - 12:30.

The students would rotate between serving food, clearing and setting tables, washing dishes (auto dishwasher) and handing out kids gift bags.

Also on Saturday the Nowthen Lions will be holding their Easter Activities at the church so they may need help with games.

I try to stay with a 3 or 4 hour shifts however I can work with most anything as long as I know in advance.  As far as the the number of volunteers I can guarantee anyone who signs up will be assigned duties.  Each student will be provided with breakfast.

If you have questions e-mail, call or text.

Thank you for your continued support.
